This is a story of tragedy that will haunt Hutchinson for years to come. The murder of 5 children by their father and then laying at Eastside Cemetery in 5 unmarked graves.
At 2am on Tuesday, March 21, 1899 John A. Moore killed his 5 children and then set the home on East 10th in Hutchinson, on fire. The children were discovered once the fire had been extinguished. Mr. Moore was the only one to escape the fire. His wife was nursing a sick women somewhere else.
The 5 children of John A. and Mattie Franklin Moore were Carl 12, Mary 10, Pearl 8, Charlie 7 and Lee age 3.
