Debra Zelenak lives in Lander, Wyoming, although she considers herself a bit of nomad. A graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, she spent 25 years in the Air Force/Air Force Reserves retiring in 2007. Upon retirement she began pursuing her love of art full time. In 2011, Debra graduated with a Bachelor degree in Visual and Performing Art from the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.
Somewhere in her travels, Debra fell in love with the art of decoys. She always wanted to try woodcarving and took her first carving class in 1998. Since then, Debra has been sculpting in wood, stone and bronze. Her favorite point of the process is when the subject of the sculpture emerges from the material she is working with and takes on a unique personality.
