HUTCHINSON SPORTS ARENA ACCESSIBILITY
The City of Hutchinson and Hutchinson Community College encourage persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities.
If you anticipate needing any type of accommodations or have questions about the physical access provided at the Sports Arena, please contact the Hutchinson Community College at:
ACCESSIBLE PARKING, DROP-OFF ZONES AND ENTRANCES
Access to the parking lots and drop-off zones is available from 11th Avenue and 13th Avenue. The primary lot for accessible parking spaces is immediately adjacent to the south lobby entrance. Accessible parking is also available in the east parking lot at the north end nearest to the building, and at the northwest entrance to the gyms. Drop-off zones are located at the south lobby entrance and the east-west entrances. Accessible doors with openers are located at the south and northwest entrances.
It is important to notify the Hutchinson Sports Arena in advance or at the time of ticket purchase regarding your access needs including ADA and companion seating, assistive listening devices, or other needs. Each person with ADA seating may have a maximum of three companions in the same area.
ADA and companion seating is dispersed throughout the main arena. Armless chairs are in the blue seating at event level. Also, retractable wheelchair and companion seating is in section AA of the blue seating and in the front row bleacher sections at event level. Wheelchair and companion seating is at the top of the red seating section along the 2nd floor concourse at sections F, I, JJ, K, LL, M, NN, and Q. All seating sections include handrails at steps.
Accessible elevators in the south lobby provide access to the 2nd and 3rd floors. The accessible elevator in the west side of the building goes to the 2nd floor only.
Temporary loan wheelchairs are not available. Patrons should bring their own wheelchair if they wish to use it for their seating during an event.
New public restrooms throughout the building are ADA accessible. Public restrooms are available on the north and south sides of the building at event level, and on the 3rd floor which is accessed by the south elevators. (Note: The ramps and older restrooms located along the ramps are not ADA compliant.)
Service dogs are permitted in the Sports Arena. Under ADA, a service dog is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability. Emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals are not considered service dogs under ADA. Service dogs are not required to wear a vest, patch or special harness. In situations where it is not obvious that the dog is a service animal, staff may ask if the dog is a service animal required because of a disability, and what work or task has the dog been trained to perform.
All concession stands are wheelchair accessible with lowered counters at each stand.
Assistive listening devices are available upon request.
Family Restrooms and a Lactation Room for nursing mothers are located on the south side of the building at event level.
Complaints that a City program, service, or activity is not accessible to persons with disabilities should be directed Meryl Dye, Assistant City Manager and ADA Coordinator, at or 620-259-4118 (Kansas Relay 7-1-1).
