Application for Appointment
Are You a Leader?
If the City is to have positive and meaningful impact, our citizens must take their rightful place at the leadership tables of the City. Serving on a board or commission is a significant way to participate in civic life.
Do you have the general background and interest to serve on a City board or commission? Perhaps you have specific skills, experience or expertise to offer.
There are many boards needing your help by studying the topics, listening to others, offering ideas, helping guide City programs and services, and contributing to decisions affecting our great community.
Review the boards and commissions listed on the left to identify those of special relevance to your area of interest.
● Learn all you can about the purpose of the board or commission, including the law that establishes its existence and mandates its duties.
● Check the board or commission web page to review materials of the organization, such as minutes, newsletters, strategic plans, and annual reports.
● Attend a meeting or event to form a first impression of how the body operates.
● Talk to the staff liaison assigned to the board or board members presently serving to learn what commitment is expected as part of an appointment.
Be a voice, make a difference, and be proud to serve your neighbors and contribute to the future of Hutchinson!
Our Commitment to Diversity
It is the policy of the City of Hutchinson to assure equal opportunity for all citizens to participate on City boards and commissions. The City is strengthened by diverse representation on City boards and commissions. To this end the City encourages all persons, regardless of race, sex, religion, color, age, national origin, ancestry, or disability to serve on city boards or commissions. The City will actively seek interest statements from groups and individuals who may have been under represented in the past in City appointments and will consider under representation in making future appointments.
Nominations are made to the Mayor by the board or commission, or by the staff liaison in the absence of a nomination. Applicants must complete and sign an Application for Appointment in order to be considered. The applicant must also provide in writing a statement of interest and qualifications, and identify any potential conflicts of interest regarding matters that may come before the specific board or commission. No appointment is official until such time the Mayor makes a recommendation and consent of the Governing Body is given through an affirmative vote, which will be confirmed by letter from the City Manager.
