The Hutchinson Police Department currently has one School Resource Officer that is assigned to USD 308 schools.
Officer Joseph Fine has been appointed to the position of School Resource Officer for Hutchinson High School.
Officer Fine grew up and graduated High School in Marion, Kansas. After High School he attended Butler Community College and after earning his Associates of Arts Degree, transferred to Emporia State University where he majored Crime and Delinquency Studies. After graduating from ESU in May of 2011, he began his career with the Hutchinson Police Department the same month.
In the last eight years, Fine has served as a Field Training Officer and taught new recruits about fair and impartial policing as well as de-escalation tactics. He has also been a guest instructor for the Emergency Vehicle Operation Course at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.
"I felt that applying for the School Resource Officer position at Hutchinson High School would allow me to best utilize my degree, experience, as well as my passion for teaching and law enforcement. I am looking forward to starting the transition to SRO and getting to know and work with the staff and students at HHS."
When not at work, you’ll probably find Officer Fine on the golf course, watching Chiefs football, or spending time with his lovely wife and two beautiful children.
"I originally got into Law Enforcement because I wanted a career that challenged me daily. As well as something that wasn’t the monotonous grind of doing the same thing day in and day out. This field gives me the ability to go out into the community I live in and attempt to make a difference each shift."
