HPD Employee of the Week 11.25.19

Dayton GatesThis weeks highlighted employee comes to us from the patrol division, Sergeant Dayton Gates.

My name is Dayton Gates. I was born in Hutchinson and lived here throughout my early years. After High School, I attended and graduated from Cowley County Community College. I then transferred to Wichita State University where I received a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice.

I joined the Hutchinson Police Department in December 2008.
I was a Field Training Officer for 7 1/2 years before I was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in November 2018. I'm currently an instructor for report writing, arrest law and firearms. I'm also on the Leadership Team.

I enjoy being active in the community. I'm part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Reno County. I have a "little" that I frequently mentor. I also organized the school bus enforcement assignment.

In my downtime, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy watching movies, shooting and traveling. I'm always challenging myself and working outside my comfort zone.

I want to remain with HPD for the remainder of my career. This is a great community that I support and love.
