Following federal, state and local recommendations to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the Hutchinson Animal Shelter, except for limited circumstances, will close to the public. Staff will be onsite to treat and care for our animals currently housed there. Animal Control staff will respond to bites and animal calls that present a danger to the public but will not pickup stray animals as they could potentially pass the virus after interaction with infected persons through their fur or other surfaces. The Shelter itself will not accept stray animals during this time, for the same reasons. Adoptions of animals currently in the shelter will be limited as interaction between a prospective family and pet won’t be allowed. Pet owners who think their pet may be in the shelter may check online at or our Facebook page. You can also contact the Shelter by phone at (620) 694-1924. If you find that your pet is in the Shelter you may then come to claim your pet through instructions posted there. Animals will not be euthanized based on their length of stay due to these new guidelines. Rest assured our primary goal is for the safety and well-being of our animals and staff and we look forward to having this event behind us all. Thank you for your understanding.
