The Hutchinson Zoo announced they will be closing on Friday, March 20, at 4:45pm until further notice due to the CDC and Reno County Health Department recommendations regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). All camps, events, and rentals have been cancelled or will be rescheduled.
The Zoo’s staff will continue working to care the nearly 200 animals which reside onsite. Additionally, this time will be used to complete updates and maintenance projects which are harder to accomplish with visitors in the Zoo. As with other local attractions, a deep cleaning and disinfect will occur prior to reopening to the public.
“It really is heart-breaking to have to close to the public again so soon after last year’s flood,” stated Zoo Director, Ryan VanZant. “We had such an outpouring of support from our community and have completed herculean efforts to clean up and make changes to serve the Hutchinson community. I guarantee our staff will continue make changes and improvements to the Zoo during this closure.”
