The City of Hutchinson will once again hold its annual City Wide Clean Up on the weekend of April 24-25. Dumpsters will be placed throughout the city for residents to use free of charge. Locations of the dumpsters has not changed this year, nor have the items that are not allowed in them, which include mattresses, tires, yard waste, hazardous waste, and large metal items like appliances. These items will need to be brought directly to the landfill.
What has changed this year, however, is that in conjunction with the annual clean up, City of Hutchinson Building Official Izzy Rivera has announced a new tactic to get those with trash in their yards a chance to avoid being issued a notice of violation. Leading up to the weekend of the cleanup, residents who would usually be issued a notice of violation for trash and debris in their yard will instead be given a flier about the cleanup.
“We want to offer a solution and a chance to fix the problem,” Rivera said. “This just seems like a logical opportunity.”
While violators will not be issued a notice of violation at this time, there will be follow-up.
“We are making sure that residents understand that this is an opportunity to correct the issue and not a free pass. The city will have to issue a notice of violation if things aren’t cleaned up when May gets here,” clarified Rivera.
