This committee provides technical information and advice on policy, general management and operations of the Hutchinson Municipal Airport.
The Board of Zoning Appeals holds public hearings to consider appeals by persons or officers of the city, county, or any governmental agency or body affected by any decision of the officer administering the provisions of the zoning regulations. The Board has the power to hear and decide appeals where it is alleged there is error in any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by an administrative official in the enforcement of the zoning regulations. The Board also hears and makes rulings on requests for special use permits and variances from the zoning regulations.
The Board is established to determine questions as to the acceptability of alternate materials, equipment and types of construction, provide for the review of decisions of the Building Official in the interpretation of all regulations of Chapter 21 of the Code, determine the qualifications of applicants for the licenses and certificates established and required by Chapter 21, approve the examination standards as required by Kansas Statutes and any amendments thereto, render decisions on all appeals of the interpretation of building codes and disciplinary hearing relating to the limitation, suspension or revocation of any contractor license, registration or certificate, and act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in amending and/or revising regulations of Chapter 21.
The purpose of the Housing Commission is to identify housing problems and opportunities for the greater Hutchinson area and to develop, promote and support comprehensive housing solutions thereto.
The Human Relations Commission works to eliminate prejudice among the various groups in the City and to create harmonious relationships among the various persons and agencies within the City. The Commission functions in an advisory capacity to the mayor and the governing body of the City on problems affecting human and inter-group relations.
The purpose of the Land Bank is to efficiently acquire, manage and transform vacant, abandoned, and tax-foreclosed property into productive use and operate as required under Article XVII of the Hutchinson City Code.
The Landmarks Commission was established to preserve buildings and sites of historic and architectural importance, safeguard the heritage and culture of Hutchinson, encourage the maintenance of historic property, and promote the study of history, culture, and architectural design. This Commission makes recommendations to the Governing Body and state agencies on historic preservation matters.
The purpose of the Planning Commission is to carry out the goals of the City's Comprehensive Plan and oversee the administration of the Zoning Regulations and Subdivision Regulations. The Hutchinson Planning Commission also serves as the Board of Zoning Appeals.
The Public Art Design Council endeavors to develop a collection of public art that is of the highest quality, that will encompass a broad aesthetic range reflecting the City and the minds of its citizens, that will improve the quality of life in the area, that will be accessible to all individuals and be a source of pride to all residents.
The Board is established to make recommendations for the implementation of City forestation programs or other programs which call for the implementation of expenditure of funds allocated or given to the "Trees For Tomorrow" fund, which is held by the City for such purpose.
