Under the supervision of the City Manager, Sotelo is responsible for administering the Human Relations Ordinance pertaining to anti-discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations in cooperation with the Human Relations Commission. Prior to his service as the interim HRO, Sotelo served as the chairperson for the Human Relations Commission.
Sotelo moved to Hutchinson, Kansas in 2010, fleeing violence in his native home in Mexico. After graduating from Hutchinson High School in 2015, he attended Catholic Seminary College at Conception Seminary College in Conception Missouri and Holy Trinity Seminary at the University of Dallas.
In 2017, Sotelo worked as a program assistant at Shawnee County Prevention and Recovery Services and Safe Streets Topeka before returning to Hutchinson in 2019 to work with Rise Up Reno Prevention Network. “I am passionate about empowering people to be changemakers in their own communities and ready for the work ahead,” he said.
